Where this data comes from: locks, bridges and ports are curated from official publications — Rijkswaterstaat / Vaarweginformatie (NL), Port of Rotterdam VTS procedures, Port of Antwerp-Bruges VHF documentation, the CCR's Handbuch Binnenschifffahrtsfunk (Rhine/Moselle), and Kiel Canal transit guidance. Entries are marked confirmed only when sourced directly from one of these.
EuRIS: the EU's River Information Services platform (eurisportal.eu) publishes a broader open RIS Index covering locks, bridges and berths across 13 countries. Its API requires a registered key, which isn't safe to call directly from a browser-only app — integrating it properly needs a small backend to hold the key. That's a planned next step, not yet wired in.
Route line accuracy: the drawn route threads through every mapped lock, bridge and VTS point on the way — it is not a true chart-based (ECDIS/IENC) route. Stretches with no mapped points in between still draw as a straight or lightly-approximated line, not the actual river course. A chart-accurate route would need either a licensed IENC dataset or EuRIS's digital waterway network via a backend — neither is realistic inside a browser-only app.
Coverage: a sample corridor (Benelux–Rhine, Kiel Canal, a handful of major ports) — not exhaustive. Community reports fill gaps between updates.
